There are multiple ways to highlight and annotate your scores in Enote. 

Most options for annotations can be found in Draw Mode. You can enter Draw Mode by tapping the    icon at the bottom of your Score View.

If you are an institutional partner or a subscriber on Apple and are using Enote for Android, please be aware the Android app is still in its very early development stages and so you won’t find all of the drawing tools listed below just yet. Rest assured that we’re working hard to add them, and to make the Android app available for everyone soon.

Working in Draw Mode

Draw Mode lets you annotate your scores using your finger, mouse or Apple Pencil.

To turn pages on a touch-screen device without unintentionally drawing on your score, you can use two fingers to swipe, or tap the arrows on either side of the score.

The Draw Mode screen has two main sections:

Drawing Toolbar

Manual drawing tools can be found in the Drawing Toolbar at the bottom of your screen. These include:

•    Pencil Tool:
  The Pencil Tool mimics a real pen or pencil for handwritten notes. You can change color from the right-side of the Toolbar, or tap the pencil icon a second time to select thickness and transparency.
  
  

•    Highlighter Tool:
  The Highlighter mimics a real highlighter by adding a thicker, semi-transparent block of color. Note that the Highlighter Tool does not highlight automatically. This is our Smart Annotations feature, which is accessible from the    icon in the Actions Toolbar.
  
  
•    Shape Tool:
  Add frequently used shapes like crescendos, arrows and boxes to your score. Select the shape from the left menu, then tap the shape a second time to select thickness and color. 
  
  
•    Bar Line Tool:
  Easily add neat bar lines for structuring your music. Select this tool, choose whether you’d like to make the bar line thicker, longer, or both. Choose a color, then tap a bar line in your score. The bar line will cover all staves in a system. To adjust the length and thickness of the line, simply tap the bar line icon again.
  
  
•    Text Tool:
  Use this tool to add a text box to your score. Formatting tools appear to the right of the Toolbar, and you can adjust the width of the text box by tapping and dragging the    icon. The tool also supports Apple Pencil’s Scribble functionality, which converts handwritten notes into text.
  
  
•    Eraser Tool
  The Eraser Tool lets you remove annotations from your score. The Eraser removes full annotations rather than parts of the annotation, so you only need to touch a marking to remove it. If you delete something accidentally, you can restore it using the undo button in the Actions Toolbar (more on this in section B below).
  
  
•    Lasso Tool:
  The Lasso Tool lets you reposition one or more annotations on the page. Just circle any items you wish to move to “grab” them with the lasso, then adjust their placement by dragging.

It is important to understand that annotations made on Digital Editions are linked to measures. This ensures that your markings stay in the right place, regardless of the screen resolution or paper dimensions they are displayed in. You will notice a subtle highlight appear over your score when making or moving annotations, which shows the measure being used as an anchor point:

If you would like to make smaller annotations, you can also use the pinch action to zoom in on a specific section of the score.

Actions Toolbar

The Actions Toolbar at the top of your Score View allows you to make changes that affect your annotations in bulk. These include:

•    Button:
  This button closes Draw Mode and takes you back to the regular Score View.
  
  
•   Undo /   Redo
  These icons let you move back or forward freely through changes you have made to quickly fix accidents or decide on different approaches.
  
  
•    Annotation Layers
  Tap this icon to open the Annotation Layers menu and follow the prompts to create a new blank layer. The menu will now show your original and new layer, and provide options for sharing with other Enote users. Read more about adding and sharing Annotation Layers here. 
  
  
•    Smart Annotations
  This icon opens the Smart Annotations menu, which lets you automatically highlight parts and symbol groups across your entire score. Learn more about using Smart Annotations here.
  
  
•    Apple Pencil Settings:
  If you use iPad with Apple Pencil, this gives you the option to only annotate with your Apple Pencil, letting you naturally turn pages with a swipe while in Draw Mode.

Quick Annotations with Apple Pencil

If you use an iPad with an Apple Pencil you can use it to make “Quick Annotations” on your score, without needing to enter Draw Mode.

The type and color of the Quick Annotations drawing tool can be selected from the standard Score Settings menu via the    icon:

If you have a 2nd generation Apple Pencil, you can also alternate between your selected Quick Annotation tool and the Eraser tool with the standard double tap action near the tip of the Apple Pencil.
